I actually happen to work adjacent to this industry. One of Canada’s largest publicly traded dealer groups announced they’re completely withdrawing from AutoTrader due to the high cost.
Anecdotally, I’ve heard from multiple dealers AutoTrader raises prices so frequently the ROI just isn’t there. In terms of CPL, they’re by far the highest digital source. The reps from AutoTrader say their leads are worth the cost because they’re “higher quality” but the dealers I speak to disagree.
Overall I do think the space is ripe for disruption, but until we see something concrete I’m not sure this stock will drop 50% for example.
