I have been a BullionVault customer for a number of years.
It is by far, the best and safest way to buy vaulted metals at the market price. Its certainly the cheapest way to get exposure to silver, as if you buy coins or bars for delivery, you will pay VAT on them.
Unlike unallocated and paper gold, you actually own the metal under 'bailment'.
So whatever private vault you choose, the audit will show your name, on X grams/kg of metal...even if BV were to fail...you still own the metal.
You don't have to worry about security or insurance, as this is all included, for a very reasonable fee.
You can buy in and out, very swiftly.
It's also a good idea to have a physical position, 'in your hands'.
As with BV, if you buy bars or non UK coins, then you will be liable for Capital Gains Tax, on any gains when you sell.
If you buy Brittanias, you will pay a few % premium over Spot, but...you wont be exposed to CGT at 18%+ when you sell.
A tube of 10 1ozt Brittanias, is pretty small and holds about, 26k currently, so we aren't talking lots of space, even for 500k (about the size of a house brick).
I have previously used Atkinsons Bullion, but mainly use Chards now.
Chards will also, vault coins for you (privately), which makes it a bit easier to sell back to them and still not be exposed to CGT, if that is something you are comfortable with.
With governments unable to ever get out of debt, only spending more and the unfortunate instability globally, gold is only going up; not in a straight line...nothing does.
