Well, I am a Breachers VR Player who is participating in the VRML, so I spend around 16 hours per week in VR.
I know some people having trouble with disorientation, headache and even feeling sick.
Even among daily player I know people who get a headache after 3-4 hours of playing. I personally have not been longer in VR than 6 hours per day and have never experienced any problems. Other than a 10 sekonds disorientation after taking the headset off.
I think I know the study you are referring to. But if I recall correctly this study was conducted specifically on developing brains (age 10 to 14 ...is my guess).
And yes, it is terrible that specifically in the US all warnings regarding permanent influence on developing Brains "do not use under 14/13" have vanished over night. This is no toy for small kids. This can have influence on developing brains. You shouldn't use it, if you are not allowed to drive a car. (IMHO).
Maybe its not for everyone, or maybe the technology evolves further and be for everyone. I don't know. But I know that the number of active users across VR is rapidly growing.
