I owned a portfolio of around 50 individual stocks for the past 5-6 years that performed okay but below the benchmark. My portfolio included GOOGL, AMZN, AAPL, BRK-B, ISRG, MSFT, RSG, and NVDA each representing about 5% but equally I held a number of stocks that performed poorly such as ILMN, NKE and DIS.
Then I discovered the Bogleheads way on Reddit, conducted my own extensive research (I’m based in New Zealand so there are some local nuances that differ from the US), and am currently in the process of selling all my individual stocks and moving to low fee index funds.
I’ve also just FIRE’d at 51 and am living off my investments so want it to be as easy as possible rather than needing to research which stocks to sell each year to provide an income.
Based on my analysis my investments would have performed considerably better had I known about and implemented the Boglehead investing philosophy 5 years ago but better late than never.
