This is the correct answer. I’ve used Lightstream twice for personal loans and used the funds to buy BTC. Just say it’s for “home improvement” or “debt consolidation”.
I’ve also done loans through Marcus (Goldman) and SoFi. These loans were a few years ago, so the rates were between 5 and 7%. I would be careful if the rate is significantly higher, like 10%+.
I also used my 401k to buy bitcoin via loans and early withdrawals. That’s not as necessary today, since you can purchase an ETF like IBIT in your 401k.
I’ll add that TradFi people will tell you borrowing money to buy BTC is dumb. And they’re completely wrong. Accumulating as much BTC as you can is the goal.

The biggest reason you are seeing all of these covered call funds pop up in the last few years is the SEC rule change **rule 6c-11**.
That rule change in 2019 dramatically streamlined the process for forming new ETFs. Also in that time the options market exploded with activity. That's why options for the YM, and Roundhill funds bring in so much income. Because options like anything else are driven by supply and demand. Especially with the 0DTE options taking hold you are seeing way more options volume than just 5 years ago. That's not a bad thing in my opinion.
Would caution you though on counting on CC funds for a large portion of your income. Just as fast as they changed the rules to bring ETFs into the fold faster they can change them again to crush options. Not saying that will happen as the options market generates mad amounts of cash. I sell covered calls on IBIT weekly purely because of the amount of options premium it brings in. In the last 6 months I have been averaging 3% premium per month with some losses due to rolling. Overall though it's pretty sweet to use CC's, and cash secured puts.

I have suggested at times she buy a little bit of IBIT but mostly just talk about how bitcoin works and what it fixes. I think she has seen over time the price go up and is having FOMO honestly. I still think it’s a great investment for her but If it tanks I would end up blaming myself for even bringing it up to her.
You bring up some great points. Thank you for the insight!

I made a lot of money from bitcoin using margin on RH. My borrowing rate is 5.5% per year. Even if Bitcoin goes into another crypto winter, I believe I’d still make money over a 4-5 year period. There’s been times I was down 20k, but on average I generated 10k per month consistently over 12 months. Half my money, and half RH margin. RH doesn’t allow you to use margin on Bitcoin directly but you can do it via IBIT.

I keep my excess cash in 3-month CDs and use the after-tax interest to buy dividend stocks, IBIT, whatever. I know it is considered Boomer to buy CDs, but creating a CD ladder is a good way to space out the coupon payments. Probably more tax efficient than a savings account too.

IBIT holds actual BTC to the same extent FBTC does. IBIT uses Coinbase for its custodial wallet while FBTC used Fidelity Digital Services. Insurance wise they are identical. So it’s really just brand preference at the end of the day. Personally, I’d go with overall liquidity, which IBIT dominates at the moment.

IBIT will out perform the S&P and NASDAQ.
We all know this but will only put 5% into Bitcoin because we think we are sophisticated investors.
Anyone with Bitcoin conviction will destroy the markets.

Wow, Extremely new funds, I like the idea behind BITY it pays 2% a month though options trading on IBIT.
I have traded IBIT options for a long time, if you have patients you can do well. I like the idea of making less but letting someone else do all the work.
I will probably pick up some. Thanks !

MSTY is an options play on MSTR which is a Bitcoin Play only, they gave up pretty much the rest of there business model.
99.9% of ETFs don't beat VOO or QQQ in Total Return, there boring but works.
Yes there are about 10 of these that are similar but at the end of the day, most ETFs don't beat the S&P500

Let me know one you like and I will show you it probably returns less that VOO
But in the sort term MSTY is killing it up 226% in total return in two years

But for short term cycles there are several to use, there are Gold etfs which have done very well in the last 2 years. IBIT has done great. MLPs have done pretty well. SCHD has not done well in 3 years.

I’m long IBIT and BITX, hedged using options. GBTC merely following, eg, fund inflows and outflows. GBTC beating most ETFs, so the yearly -1.5% is negligible for those who it, it has $20B AUM for a reason. Whales own it, mostly.
