I’m 34F, mil-spouse, SAHM, earn $67k with a remote job (not related to my degrees). I have no Roth yet, no 401k, currently $50k in a HYSA, no debt besides the mortgage. My husband takes care of all of expenses minus childcare & my personal wants. He is maxing out his tsp with his employer match; says I’ll be taken care of with his retirement too, so to not stress over a 401 k. My employer does not offer it, but our payroll (ADP) does although it has many rules & fees. My leftover income sits in this HYSA and it’s great for emergencies or to splurge, however, I feel it can be doing more for us. My parents did not teach me a lot regarding finances, and my husband doesn’t seek advice from anyone (he’s very private and also distrusting). So here I am. Who should I speak with? What should I do?
PS: He is active duty with 8.5 years left, makes $96k net, has his TSP through the military, 3 yrs left on his truck loan plus 28 yrs on our mortgage loan, no other debt but he likes to spend so no savings other than what I save. We have 2 toddlers and we both have life insurance already. We are currently in FL and have 2 more PCS moves before settling back in FL. Military resources and tips are also welcomed.
